Did you hear the one about the...

..."fertile" who got her tubes tied but then remarried and decided to do IVF with new husband so they could have a baby?

I never got to tell this story, but when I was undergoing IVF #1...one of my u/s appointments was of the "cattle-herding" variety.  Got stuck in a little room waiting for the bloodwork with 1 other girl, and then another room waiting for the u/s with that same girl and a few others.  Well apparently she was feeling chatty and started asking about why they have us in the little room, etc.  I tell her that it's my first IVF but I'd heard about these weekend and holiday appointments.  She starts asking me about my situation, and I offer up a little bit of my story (almost 2 years TTC #1 at the time, 4 IUI's all BFN).  That's when she pipes up, "Well I'm very very fertile, which is why I had my tubes tied after I had my first 3 kids.  Now I'm remarried and he wants kids so we have to do IVF.  But I'm very fertile so the doctor said it should work the first time. Luckily, my husband has great insurance through work that covers part of IVF."

Umm....are you KIDDING ME???  I could see all the glaring, glowing eyes in the room, pointed at this woman (including my own).  I seriously couldn't believe that these words had come out of her mouth.  Not only do you tell me you're super fertile, but you have to do IVF because of something YOU chose to do long ago..AND your insurance is going to cover it???  Bitch, you don't know who you're talking to, do you??!!

  3. You are a nice person for not losing your mind on her. Thousands of us shell out thousands upon thousands each year to have ONE baby and she is sitting bragging about that. WOW is all I can say.

  8. That's such bullshit!!!! Why is her insurance covering it but for so many deserving women who just want 1 baby and don't have any control over their IF, it's not?!?!?!?! Arrggghhh!!!!!!

  9. Wow, that is totally not acceptable for her to do that. IF is hard enough without having to deal with that in the waiting room.

However, I just wanna put it out there that if you or your partner has been sterilized in a previos relationship, the heartbreak when you find you can't have kids in your new relationship is just devastating trust me: my hubby had vasectomy :(

  10. That just shows how truly clueless people are. As sad as it is and as mean as this sounds...I hope it did NOT work the 1st time. #justsayin

And her insurance is paying for part of it? NM taht she doesn't actually have a IF problem. WTF? UUUUUUUGH

  12. This is mean, but wouldn't it be funny if she has aged quite a bit since the "fertile" days and can't get pregnant again?

  13. My brother's new wife who is close to 50 and has 4 teenagers had the nerve to tell me that she and my brother were considering having her tubes untied or doing IVF after I confided in her that I was seeing an RE the next morning. She knows that I've been struggling with IF for 3 years. I should have just gotten up and walked out but I was too shocked to say anything. This was after she checked FB while serving me a drink and an appetizer. This was the third (and final) time I have ever spent anytime with her in the 3 years since we met.
