Reluctant Mother

I ran into an old colleque of my husband's after a presentation last night after not seeing her in a while.  As my mom taught me some manners, I asked how her husband doing as well as her little girl who is about 18 months old.  I was expecting the usual "o, she is so adorable, wish I didn't have to go back to work blah blah blah..."

What I did get was "O, you know, I was a very reluctant mother and only had her because my husband really wanted kids, but now I think it is ok.  At least she is getting to a stage now where she is a bit more of a person and not just a baby"  WTF???  RELUCTANT MOTHER?????

Why bother then if you didn't want one and even after having a baby can't see that it is a miracle?

Some people just have no clue how lucky they are...

  1. OMG!! I am not sure how you kept it together for that conversation. I will never understand why people clearly not equiped for motherhood easily become mothers and then rest of us can work for years and never get there. Universe, what is going on here????!!!!!

  4. Reluctant mother? That is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. How can you be reluctant about bringing an angel to our world? No offensive but that women is an idiot.

  5. Wow. And I though women complaining about their unplanned pregnancies and if they were going to keep the baby or not was bad.

  6. So true. At least she didn't give you the "you are so lucky not to be burdened with kids" schpiel. I hate that.

  7. No one should ever be nagged into having a kid they don't want. That's awful.

  8. I feel sorry for her. The fact that she and her husband disagree over something so important proves that they're not meant for eachother. He bullied her into getting pregnant and now she's stuck with a child that she doesn't want.
