I went to a parade of Christmas lights, an event aimed at children, as it ended with Santa. I went with my friend's family, which includes her 3.5 y/o son. It was a cold night and we all agreed that maybe we'd sit this one out next year, and just watch from home. Another friend of mine commented on FB that her family planned to make it their annual family tradition. When I shared with her our thoughts on the parade, her reply was, "Erin-you don't have kids yet haha." I kept my reply tactful, just saying, "No, I went with my friend and her 3.5 y/o, so I got the parent perspective." I unleashed on Twitter, however, "And ty very much to the 'friend' who pointed out the obvious: "Erin, you don't have kids." #STFUFertiles"
Erin
yikes! I know she didn't mean to be hurtful, but I think I would have snapped and just let loose on her! Oh it's SO hard to deal with that crap on FB!!
ReplyDeleteThat's just lovely....I didn't realize you needed a reminder, Erin. Oh the ignorance out there....
ReplyDeleteI wish you could have said "thanks for rubbing it in, fertile"
ReplyDeleteUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH that comment makes me want to rip a bitch's hair out.
ReplyDeleteSomething like that just happened to me over the weekend at a birthday party. If only some people understood how we feel about being childless! You did a great job by not saying anything back, that is so hard to do sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone! It was just ridiculous. I know she didn't mean to be hurtful, as was mentioned in that first comment, but people are so completely insensitive! Think before you speak (or type)!
