Early Mornings

A coworker posted a FB post complaining about her daughter getting up super early this morning. After being up with my DOG at 4:30, I responded. (Partially my own fault for even getting involved in the conversation!) Her wife felt the need to add her two cents... over.... and over.... and over....

Me: my DOG has B beat by an hour!! Of course, now she's asleep on the couch....
Her: Dogs will sleep all day though....toddlers, not so much.
Me: obviously you haven't met my dog!
Her: And you haven't met or spent a day with B. :o) She's available any time.
Me: Don't worry- we're *finally* going to have one of our own soon, so I'm sure I'll get my fill! Especially if he's anything like his daddy!
Her: Yeah, I heard. Congrats but I again offer you B if you want to practice. Can you tell mommies need a break? :o)
Me: As exhausting as it is, I'd love to have a two year old right now. :-/
Her: I hear you and you will before you know it. Goes by fast. We just don't go out...pretty much ever. We don't have a babysitter and rarely take time for us so that would be my advice....recharge when you can. oh and be grateful you don't need to do grad school full time (or work) while being a full-time parent. I look pretty ragged most of the time. It's not pretty.
Me: Once again, I think I'd take it over four years of infertility, ten medicated cycles, four losses, uterine surgery and four early pregnancy months full of panic attacks.
I probably shouldn't have bothered, but it made me really irritated. :(
(Note to self: Remember this conversation when my little guy is keeping me up all night.)

  1. Good! I'm glad you stood up for yourself! Some parents tick me off. My sister in law gets every weekend off from her kids and not to mention almost every other day! It seems like she never has them and is always complaining she's tired from watching the kids. I'd give anything to be able to have a child to call my own.

  3. you're brave...I wouldn't have been able to say that! But even as I sit here 3 days away from my due date I still get irritated by people who complain about pregnancy/parenthood...it's a reminder to us to cherish every second with our babies.

  4. I HATE assvice! When did you ask for her advice through telling her all your struggles just to "enjoy" sleepless nights!? Arg!! Good for you for sticking up for yourself. I hope she felt stupid after your last comment!

  5. Kudos to you for that last comment. Sometimes people really need to hear it like it is. I get so tired of hearing all the complaints from Fertiles who have nooooo idea where we're coming from and how we'd give everything to be able to get pregnant without a million medical interventions. Happy you shared that with your 'friend.'

  6. I hate people that complain about their kids. And the "wanna take mine?" comment. Last time someone offered that I said yes and started asking what they wanted in the adoption process. They don't talk to me much anymore haha.

  7. Well boo freaking hoo for her. I honestly believe I was given infertility so I would never act like that. I can/will never take my children for granted! I'm not sure I could say that if I were never given such heartache.
